How to choose a Form 2290 e-file provider
Every IRS-approved provider files the same form for the same IRS tax. What differs is the service fee, the extras and how easy it is to fix a mistake.
1. Confirm the IRS approved it
Only providers on the IRS list of authorized Form 2290 e-file providers can transmit your return. Our advisor checks that list every hour.
2. Compare the service fee for your vehicle count
Many providers charge a flat fee for one filing, set by how many vehicles are on it, not a fee per truck. So the cheapest provider for 1 truck may not be the cheapest for 30.
3. Ask what is included
- VIN correction: some fix a wrong VIN free on returns filed with them.
- Amended returns: weight increases or other changes.
- Form 8849: is it included or extra?
- Support in Spanish.
4. You must e-file with 25 or more vehicles
The IRS requires electronic filing for returns paying tax on 25 or more vehicles. With fewer, e-filing is still the fastest way to get your stamped Schedule 1, often within minutes.
5. Watch for unsafe sites
Never send your EIN or VIN to a site that is not on the IRS list. This advisor never asks for them.
